Period Drawing Room - My Way

In this room featured in 25 Beautiful Homes Magazine. I have used Farrow & Ball French grey on the walls this is one of my all time favourite colours from Farrow & Ball  especially in Period properties because it gives that real depth to a room with changing light coming in shadows reflecting back. As the day goes on the colour changes, which creates a moody room for the evening, which let's face it who wouldn't want to relax in.

On the ceiling, I have used Pavillon Grey again by Farrow & Ball a lot of people sky away from darker colours on a ceiling but it is essential for me to blend the beam into the room creating a roundness and softness to the room.

In a period property like this, I always want to show off the real features of the property to their greatest good, but be realistic into the fact that some of the period colours that worked back then don't work now in our modern living especially in my creative brain. My colour palette choices for Period properties, mainly come from earthy tones which creates a great atmosphere in the room. I never use white on ceilings against the back drop of period timber because it does not do justice to the age and length of time that the timber has stood.

This room before I started it was dark and depressing it had Britons floral carpet down and was an unused room, I turned it into a light drawing room to enjoy the morning sun.

New carpet was added from Crucial Trading I went with Sisal Grand herringbone in the light ash all the skirting boards were pine stained to look like oak along with the windows so everything which wasn't old wood was painted in old white by Farrow and Ball, I use this on wood work a look dependant on how big a room is and how much natural light there is as its a good base neutraliser.

This room has been featured in 25 Beautiful Homes and Country Homes and Interiors.

I added french style light fittings and mirrors propped up against the wall and an old shabby chic style sideboard along with a couple of unique lanterns and fresh flowers to bring a sence of comfort not complying with an ordinary drawing room.
