Does an ensuite add value to your home?
The Benefits of adding en suites to your home
As an interior designer with experience designing properties for busy families, I understand the importance of having enough time in the bathroom and hot water. Adding en suites can be daunting, but when done correctly, it can pay off in the long run.
According to Resi.com, adding a bathroom can increase your home's value by 4-5%. Calculations reveal that an ensuite can add a net gain of anywhere between £10,000 to £15,000, even after accounting for renovation costs. For family-oriented properties, a 4 double bedroom house with 3 en suites and a bathroom is ideal. However a luxury and at a cost, make sure you get your estate agent out first to see how value can be added. It's important to be cautious as the cost can range from £7,000 to £15,000 when factoring in the bathroom suite, lighting, etc and hiring electricians, joiners, and plumbers. Make sure you are doing it for the right reasons, either practicality or profit.
If your neighbors don't have luxurious bathrooms, then your home could fetch a premium. A well-maintained property with immaculate en suites and bathrooms will sell better than one without them.
Cost: The cost of installing a new bathroom can vary, but it may set you back around £7,000.
Value Added: If done correctly, adding an en suite can increase your home's value by 2-3%.
If you are looking for help choosing your tiles suite and colours then contact me to design a colour board for you avoiding costly mistakes. I can be contacted on info@theinteriorco.co.uk

If you're looking to revamp your entrance, consider giving your door a makeover. When it comes to selecting a colour, I recommend using a colour chart to find a shade that either blends seamlessly with your property or stands out boldly, depending on your preference.
Since I have to strip off all the existing PVC paint from this building, I need a starting point for my design.

Take a look at my video of me doing the makeover see if you can spot any vintage items, its speeded up of cource.
When thinking about where to put your summer house it's best to put a chair there for a few days and then keep going to sit on it to see if you like where the position is and also you'll get a grasp of where the Sun comes for the longest in the day, it was a toss up between up against the hedge so you'd have a view of the whole length of the garden or where it is now where the majority of the Sun will be all day into the evening.
I get a view of my beautiful great listed farmhouse at the same time.
I
Are used a few vintage pieces that I collected over the years. One of them was this pair of boat oars that I bought for a house I was buying on the coast in lockdown which fell through. I absolutely love these vintage wooden boat oars. I bought them from a vintage fair in Cheshire couple of summers ago, I've basically just put them up against the wall crossed and it makes a great focal point. I have put a painting in the middle just to give me a nice focal whilst sipping a glass of champagne, of course.
This stunning birdhouse. I could've sold 1 million times are used to have these in stock a few years ago, but I kept this one back in the garden seed box because I just love them to create that rustic feel. The rug was from suzie watson, I won a competition a few years ago and I got a £250 voucher for the look of one of my interiors and it took me quite a few years to spend it but I'm very happy with this wool rug which was about £380.
Here are a few inspirational shed interior ideas for you, so you can start thinking about what you're going to do to yours or maybe even like me buying one off Facebook marketplace. This one cost me £250 a snip of the cost of buying it brand-new and it was only two years old.

In this room featured in 25 Beautiful Homes Magazine. I have used Farrow & Ball French grey on the walls this is one of my all time favourite colours from Farrow & Ball especially in Period properties because it gives that real depth to a room with changing light coming in shadows reflecting back. As the day goes on the colour changes, which creates a moody room for the evening, which let's face it who wouldn't want to relax in.
On the ceiling, I have used Pavillon Grey again by Farrow & Ball a lot of people sky away from darker colours on a ceiling but it is essential for me to blend the beam into the room creating a roundness and softness to the room.
In a period property like this, I always want to show off the real features of the property to their greatest good, but be realistic into the fact that some of the period colours that worked back then don't work now in our modern living especially in my creative brain. My colour palette choices for Period properties, mainly come from earthy tones which creates a great atmosphere in the room. I never use white on ceilings against the back drop of period timber because it does not do justice to the age and length of time that the timber has stood.
This room before I started it was dark and depressing it had Britons floral carpet down and was an unused room, I turned it into a light drawing room to enjoy the morning sun.
New carpet was added from Crucial Trading I went with Sisal Grand herringbone in the light ash all the skirting boards were pine stained to look like oak along with the windows so everything which wasn't old wood was painted in old white by Farrow and Ball, I use this on wood work a look dependant on how big a room is and how much natural light there is as its a good base neutraliser.
This room has been featured in 25 Beautiful Homes and Country Homes and Interiors.
I added french style light fittings and mirrors propped up against the wall and an old shabby chic style sideboard along with a couple of unique lanterns and fresh flowers to bring a sence of comfort not complying with an ordinary drawing room.

I wanted to celebrate for weeks to come the new king, he has waited so long for his title and I feel it deserves celebrating in style so this morning I have made my own recipe of coronation gin.
Here goes
Preserve the taste othis combination in a bottle with this raspberry coronation gin, perfect topped up with a tonic. The gin will keep its lovely pink hue for a few months it then goes a little darker in colour so not as pretty so make a batch every month dependant on how much you drink.
STEP 1
Tip the raspberries and sugar into a 1.5L sterilised jar you can either put the jar on a hot wash in the dishwasher or use sterident dental tablets. ( don't make the same mistake as me this morning I got so excited to make it I put the gin in first then every raspberry sploshed all over my hand so there was only one way to remove that!) lick!
Pour over the gin, seal the jar and swish around to dissolve the sugar. Store in a cool, dark place and turn the jar every day for just the first week.
After a couple of weeks, strain the gin through a sieve. Pour the gin into decretive bottles, and label, best put the date on too!.
The gin will keep its vibrant pink colour for a few months and will be drinkable for around a year. Use the boozy raspberries in a raspberry vodka mojito cocktail or desert, or dry freeze them and use in a muesli for special occasions.
STEP 2 Drink! With friends just add lemonade or posh tonic!

]]>I have worked for Hayley's mum for over a decade doing different rooms and when Hayley and her fiancé decided to work on their house the first thing she did was call me which was a pleasure to have been chosen to help her with her project.
Hayley was really open to all of my ideas I wanted to add value to the property I haven't had much done to it for quite a few years and all the colours were dated so he was very open to all my suggestions.
Hayley had a half day Interior Design consultation and in that she found that she was able to do the whole of the top half of the house with all my ideas that I gave her the looks are stunning she has an Instagram page and everything worked out beautifully I'm hoping to go back soon to do the bottom half of the house.

]]>I love to have herbs in the kitchen at my fingertips, I pot them up in the greenhouse throughout the winter, and then in the spring, I bring them in and put them in this fabulous wicker basket with handles on, so you can carry them back out to the greenhouse or swap them over when they’ve been cut down. Having your herbs in your kitchen means cooking with them at your fingertips instead of going into the garden, especially on the wet day. use some in your stews, salads, and breads. Try this idea but be quick. I only have a couple of these baskets left.

Three perfect reasons why you should invest in good quality outdoor furniture
Blue skies are here and I’m longing for more time outside.
If you're like me, you want to spend as much time as possible outside soaking up the your dose of vitamin D. The best time to re organise your outdoor is now. Taking time now to purchase your outdoor furniture To be able to set it up in time for summer parties – leave it too late and you might miss out on some sunny days and great buys whilst we have stock and a great selection. Being prepared means as soon as the sun is out, you are too.
Getting some sun increases your serotonin and helps you stave off Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) and sun exposure can also help people with anxiety and depression, Higher Quality Sleep, Stronger Bones, Lower Blood Pressure, Increased Vitamin D
especially in combination with other treatments.
If you're debating whether or not to invest in garden furniture this year, we're here to let you know three great reasons why it's a good idea – and why you're guaranteed not to regret it.
1: Being outdoors makes you healthier and happier
It's undeniable – spending time outside in the fresh air is good for you physically and mentally. Whether you have a large garden or a small patio to enjoy, getting out there will always make you feel better.
There are reports that being in nature not only reduces stress, improves our mood and sharpens our focus, but it also boosts our immune system through vitamin D exposure - shall we order for you now! Why not make this the year you finally sort out your outdoor space.
Although being active outdoors (for example, gardening or exercising) has benefits, having somewhere to relax outside encourages us to stay out in the fresh air for prolonged periods, instead of retreating indoors. Having a comfy outdoor area maybe to read a book or enjoy your morning cup of tea will guarantee you spend as much time as possible in the open air – and the more time outside, the better.
2: It's the perfect way to socialise.
Who wants to host a party inside whilst the sky is blue outside, or have friends over for tea and cakes in the kitchen when the sun is out? Not me! Summer is the season of relaxed entertaining, whether it's a family get together BBQ or catching up with your friends with a bottle of something sparkling.
Your outdoor area should be an oasis of your personal space away from the frenzied pace of life. When i design an outdoor space it helps to use the same techniques as you would inside. Are you just creating a living area? A coffe area? A gin and tonic corner? Can you also accommodate an outdoor dining area? Consider laying a sustainable, handwoven rug that will provide an elegant neutral base to add sofas, chairs and tables so you can flip of your shoes in comfort.
Outdoor furniture suits a whole multitude of social scenarios and creates a much more pleasant environment than being stuck indoors on a lovely, sunny day. We have all-weather outdoor furniture which can be left in place all year long, so your social season can begin as soon as the temperature permits. We also have outdoor storage boxes to put your cushions s in to keep them out of the weather so they last longer.
3: It’s an investment for years to come
Unlike cheaper furniture that comes and goes and gets damaged easily, good quality garden furniture is as important as a good sofa. Not only will you use it for many years to come, but high-quality garden furniture will also remain looking as good as the day you bought it for a very long time. We supply PE rattan with a hand woven mixed half round/full round weave for strength and durability.
Good patio furniture can last 15+ years.' Better still, if you invest in high-quality wrought iron or solid teak furniture, a little maintenance will see your outdoor furniture last 25+ years.
If you're looking for little to no Maintainance garden furniture, PE rattan is the perfect choice. There's no special care needed to maintain it – just cover it in the winter for some added protection.
If you spend money on anything, good quality furniture that gives you long-lasting use is a great investment, indeed.

]]>1. Look at the furniture - Is it broken unused or dated
]]>Get organised this year by going through one room at a time and deciding what can stay and what can go.
1. Look at the furniture - Is it broken unused or dated
2. What is needed and what is clutter
3. Does the room need decorating
4. Has the room a function
5. Is the carpet old, Dirty or too dark for the room
6. Does the room have enough storage
7. Is there enough lighting
8. Who uses the room
These are all things you should consider when looking at a room to redesign or just revamp.
Look at the function of the room what it is used for and who uses it. Decide if there is enough storage if there is just old junk and clutter on those bookshelves under beds and under the stairs and get rid of things which do not serve you.
Look to see if the room needs decorating often dirty marks on walls and the wrong colour is chosen can actually stop you from using a room altogether.
The wrong lighting is a critical mistake of many, get the lighting right and the colour of the walls and people will flood into the room, which was once just looked in.
If you have a bookcase with just clutter on it, throw the things which no longer serve you away and display beautiful things you own which may be in a cupboard or pushed away. Use storage baskets to put bits and bobs in and label them up.
You live in your space so make it work for you, If you never have guests to stay then turn the spare room into a second lounge a reading room a study or hobby room, don't live for others live for the here and now.
You have to love every single item in your home for it to serve you, if it doesn't get rid of it.
Let me know if this has helped you declutter, I would love to hear your stories.

It had some residue of limewax on the cabinet but not enough to irrate the top layer of paint so I sanded just lightly then applyed the grey paint to the outside. I decided to paint the inside in cream i didnt used to bother painting the inside but this is such a great tip as everything inside becomes iluminated and makes you super tidy. I got these old hampers we used to have in our holiday let Turtledove Hideaway and put labels on so i knew which bits where in which box and i became super tidy overnight. You have to agree this has brought this piece of furniture right up to date with a contemporary twist.
